General Dentistry

The best investment you can make to your dental health is a regular checkup and clean. If there is a problem, a regular check can often identify this as soon as possible, allowing us to help you manage the issue with the least amount of fuss and cost. Remember, dentistry does not have to be expensive. Neglect is. We can provide a variety of general dental services ranging from examinations to cleans, X-rays, fissure sealants, fillings and extractions.

Your first visit with us

A medical and dental history form will be filled. A thorough dental examination is carried out. We check for problems such as dental decay, cracked teeth, gum disease, dry mouth and any unusual lumps or ulcers or lesions in the mouth (oral cancer screening) and other problems. X-rays and photos may be required to gather further information to help with diagnosis and treatment planning if needed.

At Burgundy Street Dental Clinic, we place a large emphasis on preventive dentistry. Dental disease is largely preventable. We should always practice good oral hygiene and consume a diet that is low in sugar and acid. The mouth is a dynamic environment and experiences regular wear/attack from the types of foods and drinks we consume, the habits we may have like nail biting and even grinding and clenching our teeth. It always needs maintenance.

If only we had Superman’s x-ray vision! Dental X-rays help us screen for difficult to see dental problems, like if you have a hole in between your teeth or an infection in your jawbone.

Sealants

For ‘groovy’ teeth. Sealants are used to ‘fill’ and seal the most difficult parts of the enamel to keep clean – the pits and fissures. Often these grooves are too deep for the bristles of a toothbrush to clean effectively, and so are usually the first surface of the tooth to develop a cavity. Sealants make the surface smoother and easier to clean.

Professional Dental Cleans

Help to remove surface stains (usually coffee, tea, red wine) and tartar (hardened plaque, almost like a barnacle) that form on teeth over time. This minimises the risk of gum disease like gingivitis and periodontitis, whilst keeping the tooth enamel looking as white and stain-free as possible. Cleaning is usually best performed every 6 months.

Remember, prevention is always better than a cure.

We accept all private health insurances, Veteran Affairs (DVA) and Medicare Child Dental Scheme. We are a preferred provider for the HCF More for Teeth Program which offer no gap cover for diagnostic and preventive dentistry.
