Regular dental check-ups help identify problems such as tooth decay, gum disease, cracked teeth and worn fillings, often before symptoms develop. Early detection can allow problems to be managed with simpler treatment.

At Burgundy Street Dental Clinic, we place a strong emphasis on preventive dentistry. Our general dental services include examinations, professional cleans, X-rays, fissure sealants, fillings and other routine treatments.

If treatment is required, we explain our findings, discuss the available options and outline the expected costs before proceeding.

What happens at a check-up

What general dentistry covers

General dental care includes regular examinations and preventive treatments, along with treatment for tooth decay and other common dental problems.

Check-ups and cleans

Dental examinations and professional cleans to assess oral health and remove plaque and tartar. Fluoride treatment where recommended.

X-rays

Digital dental X-rays help identify decay between teeth and other problems that may not be visible during an examination. Taken when clinically indicated.

Fillings

Tooth-coloured fillings to restore teeth affected by decay or damage. Existing fillings are assessed and replaced when necessary.

Fissure sealants

A protective coating applied to the grooves of back teeth to help prevent decay. Particularly useful for children’s permanent molars.

The recommended interval depends on your oral health. Some patients benefit from six-monthly check-ups, while others may require more or less frequent visits. Your dentist will recommend a suitable schedule.

No. Dental X-rays are recommended based on your dental history, risk of decay and findings during an examination. They help identify problems that may not be visible during a routine check-up.

For most people it is comfortable. If your gums are inflamed you may feel some sensitivity during the clean. Tell us and we can slow down, use a gentler setting or numb the area.

We accept private health insurance and offer on-the-spot claiming through HealthPoint. Any out-of-pocket costs depend on your level of cover. Eligible HCF members may receive no-gap preventive dental services under the More for Teeth program, subject to policy limits.

Children aged 0 to 17 may be eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, which covers selected basic dental services up to a capped amount over two calendar years. Contact our reception team to check your child’s eligibility and available balance before booking.

We explain what we have found, discuss the available treatment options and provide an estimate of costs. If monitoring the condition is appropriate, we will explain that option too.

Burgundy street dental are simply wonderful! Lucky I was referred by a friend and former retired staff member many years ago so I would never go anywhere else so to the bestest practice manager ever Grace,Thankyou ! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by Tilly at the front desk ..so welcoming, kind, and helpful. The main star of the show however is dentist Ben- absolutely incredible and thorough and understanding, especially if you’re someone who gets a bit nervous at the dentist. Ben always does an amazing job and his attention to detail is second to none. It’s always a smooth visit and I really appreciate his care and professionalism . Everyone here is fantastic and although I’ve moved location I still travel almost 2 hrs to get here and I genuinely wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Dr. Susma is kind, smart, a good communicator and she managed to sort out a gum issue I had for years within few visits. I was shocked that none of the 3-5 dentists I’ve worked with in the past had ever worked with me proactively in solving my problem. She is also very good at educating me on how things work so I know what to focus on in my busy schedule.

Saw Dr Susma for a stubborn baby tooth in my teenage son which needed to be extracted. Dr Susma and team were professional, efficient and very mindful of a nervous teenager needing to have a tooth extracted. Excellent care was provided including clear instructions on post extraction care and I am happy to recommend this dental practice!

I had my second visit this year with Dr Ben today and again, was so blown away by the level of patient care provided by both Ben and the staff at the clinic. Ben is gentle and kind and very thorough and keeps you informed of all that he is doing and what he is seeing during the check-up. Winnie his dental assistant was also very friendly and attentive and the super lovely Tahlu on reception was a pleasure to deal with. I used to loathe going to the dentist, literally racking up years in between visits, but now that I have found such empathic Dentists in Dr Susma and Dr Ben, I find I'm quite happy to go in and get work done. Thank you again for creating such a pleasant environment Dr Susma and team. 🙂
